Dr. Kevin McCannon

Kevin recently defended his dissertation entitled “Challenges of Health Care Devolution: Problems of Legitimacy, Consumer Knowledge, and Work Transfer in Kansas Medicaid.” He plans to continue his research on health post-graduation by exploring the implications of managed care for community health organizations and the relationship between SES and oral health. He presented a paper in the Health Policy session of the 2016 meeting of the American Sociological Association entitled “Debating Responsibility: Possibilities and Limits for Consumer Advocacy in Kansas Medicaid.”  Kevin has also participated in the Social Theory Centre Institute for Advanced Studies Summer School, ‘Contesting Expertise in the Post-Secular Age: In Search of Intellectual Life,’ at the University of Warwick, UK, in summer 2013, and ‘Moderation and its Discontents: Religion, rights and social justice’ at the University of Warwick in 2014. He also studied health and social care policy in Sweden, worked with MainStream Coalition to improve voter turnout in the 2016 Kansas primary, and was the Grant Officer for the Achievement and Assessment Institute.
